Side A kicks off with a high-energy demo from this month’s interview subject, Ray Avila/KFI-AM, Los Angeles! Cut 2 is audio for this month’s Producer’s VU column. Be sure to read then listen, or listen then read! We fill out the rest of Side A with more great promo production. You’ll love Cut 4 which makes nice use of the popularity of Taco Bell’s little Chihuahua. And we wrap up the side with a bit from Joe Edwards/Advantage Productions which was done after couple of local “hicks” stole an ATM machine and got caught.

Side B offers a fun mixture of things. We open with three spoof spots from the one and only John Pellegrini. John writes: “I was browsing Dan O’Day’s website…and I came across his 17 pages of over-used commercial clichés. Included in the pile of clichés was a script from Britain. I decided to translate some of the British slang into American, and I recorded it. That’s the first spot. Then, I thought, what if we had to tell the truth about those worthless clichés? That resulted in my writing and producing the second spot. Then, I realized I hadn’t quite covered all the clichés, so I wrote and produced the third spot. Then I got bored and lost all interest. And yet, I know that I still haven’t covered all the possible commercial clichés out there.

Next up on Side B is a great piece of work from Don Elliot/KFI/KOST, Los Angeles. It’s a bit about a copywriter’s first script, loaded with sound effects and music segments, and what happens when she takes it to the producer, who isn’t quite prepared for this major production. Excellent! After this, we move on to four examples of how commercials should be done, and we wrap up the side with three smokin’ sweeper montages.
