Haven't Switched to Pro Tools Yet?

Haven't Switched to Pro Tools Yet?

Postby Editor » Mon Jul 11, 2011 8:25 am

Following is the Q It Up question that appeared in the July/August 2011 issues of Radio And Production:

Q It Up: Still not using Pro Tools? Why haven’t you made the switch? What program are you using now, and why have you stayed with this one? Have you tried any others along the way? And if you are a Pro Tools user, have you always been, or did you switch from some other program? Which one or ones did you migrate from and how did they compare to Pro Tools?

For those who didn't get to participate in the discussion, we'll let it continue here!

I always regarded Pro Tools as overkill for what I needed to do in production. That, and it being waaaayyyy too expensive for the station I worked at (we're talking circa 2002 here). By the time Digi came to terms with the realities of the marketplace, I was way too far along on the other workstations such as Sonar, Vegas, and Audition to backtrack.

When Pro Tools M-Powered came out, I learned the essentials to mix a CD project that had its genesis in Pro Tools, and found it clunky and cumbersome. Reading all the glowing reviews on PT9, the workflow and ancillary features must have been greatly improved, but again, no time to backtrack!
